The quality of our research is key to our reputation. Robin brings an abundance of skill and experience enhancing our research team and refining our service offering.
Robin started his secondary education at Batley Grammar School focusing on sciences at a-level. He went on to study chemistry in greater depth at Leeds University and began his career as a stockbroker soon after graduating. Robin spent 4 years working on the global corporate dealing desk at Dealwise (owned by Skipton Building Society & later TD Waterhouse) before moving to BWD Rensburg (now Investec) as a Discretionary Investment Manager. With 5 years’ experience under his belt Robin returned to TD Waterhouse as a stockbroker and then set himself up as an independent financial advisor. In 2012 Robin moved to Lupton Fawcett Solicitors as part of their investment management team and joined RSMR at the end of 2018.
As a teenager Robin showed flair & interest in the world of finance when he started dealing in investments in his lunchbreak. His focus was mainly on small cap drug companies with his first ever purchase in Skye Pharma stock. Robin started with £1,000 & ten bagged it over 5 years, funding the purchase of his first car. An investment research genius in the making!
Robin’s main hobbies are listening to English blues & progressive house and cooking. From Eric Clapton to Eric Prydz and from Indian to Thai, it’s an eclectic mix! With 2 boys, a dedication to family time is up there with his main priorities. As a family they enjoy the combination of camping and music festivals such as Feastival and Campbestival and love a good gig. With 4 to please that can mean anything from the Kaiser Chiefs to Kylie. A dedication to pub quizzing needs a mention too. Robin was part of the RSMR team that recently won the Seven Investment Management quiz at the Parkside Tavern in Leeds raising money for Martin House Children’s Hospice. Take a look- he clearly knows his stuff!

As a grateful former pupil of Batley Grammar School Robin decided to give back by becoming a trustee of the BGS Foundation Trust and Treasurer of the old Batelians Association. His role is to look after the assets of the charity in terms of investments and liabilities. Fund raising is another area of focus with a blend of quiz nights (goes without saying!) and family fun events, which helps to provide funding for projects and equipment such as trampolines, expedition rucksacks and the replacement of a stained-glass window in the school. Having really enjoyed his years at the school Robin gets a warm glow about contributing to such a good cause.
Robin explains that he was attracted to RSMR because of the name and reputation. He was impressed by the plain-speaking approach at interview and the reliability of the information provided and agreed timescales. Contributing to the quality of research that RSMR produce was a serious motivator for Robin.
Robin now reports to Ken Rayner, CEO of RSMR, and his main responsibilities are to manage and grow the discretionary funds service. With the experience he has in this area and as an IFA, he’s a great addition to the team. Robin is working with both consultancy and portfolio clients in the sphere of general research with a spotlight on ethical & SRI funds and investment trusts.
And the final word from Robin:
I'm looking forward to working with a diverse range of clients within the expanding team at RSMR...
