The RSMR monthly fund update - April 2024

Every month we study the universe of funds in the investment marketplace to assess whether they meet our exacting standards and should be given the RSMR seal of approval.

Here's the new rated fund from our April review:

AXA Global Short Duration Bond

AXA Global Short Duration Bond is a fund that invests across the whole short-dated fixed income spectrum, including sovereign bonds (nominal and inflation linked). Investment grade, high yield, in US dollar, euro and sterling, as well as hard currency emerging market bonds. The fund does not invest in equity like hybrid debt, nor in deeply subordinated bonds. The aim is to provide investors with steady, incremental returns with a focus on income generation and the preservation of capital.

The strategy is managed by Nicholas Trindade CFA, who works within AXA’s London based Active Credit team, which forms part of AXA’s much broader global fixed income team, is made up of around 120 investment professionals and located in most of the major markets across the world. Two thirds of AXA’s assets undermanagement are in fixed income.

A global, top-down approach complemented by bottom-up research specific to the drivers of each sub-asset class is employed, drawing on the global expertise of the entire fixed income team. The fund manager seeks to maintain a resilient portfolio through optimal diversification and active management, within which there is a strong level of ‘natural’ liquidity, as a high percentage of the portfolio matures each year. Relative to a relevant range of short-dated bond indices and an average of its short-dated peer group, the fund’s performance, taken together with the strength of the team and the consistent application of the clearly defined process, justifies an RSMR rating.
